So this seems to be the most common mistake we get in our ebay store. People are confused about clamp sizes and hose sizes. So they are clamping a 5/8″ hose and they are like “oh cool, that will be a 5/8” clamp then.
WELL NO – NOT USUALLY. If you READ YOUR HOSE, you will see that it is a 5/8″ hose on the INSIDE. THE ID — THE INSIDE DIAMETER. That is how you know how much hose you have for whatever is going through there — water, gas, air, unicorn farts, whatever you are channeling.
When you clamp something, you are CLAMPING THE OUTSIDE — NOT THE INSIDE. Common sense right?? Well apparently not so much as people f- it up all the time. Even when our descriptions lay it out literally in bold letters like we wrote it with crayon where it says – MEASURE THE OUTSIDE DIAMETER. BE SURE TO MEASURE THE OD — OUTSIDE DIAMETER. BE SURE TO MEASURE THE OUTSIDE NOT THE INSIDE DIAMETER OR YOU WILL HAVE FITMENT ISSUES.
Yet, again and again, they mess it up. Part is that people do not read descriptions at all, I get that. And another part is that people are not thinking about it. Well the clamps will not magically transform into the correct one. They will stay the same as the one you ordered. They won’t grow to be larger or smaller because you didn’t measure. So just measure — IT IS THAT SIMPLE
SO HERE IS THIS POST — to hopefully help as a reminder!!!
When you clamp something, you are clamping the OUTSIDE. So if the inside diameter is 5/8″, YOU WILL NEED A CLAMP THAT IS BIGGER THAN 5/8″ How big? The only person that can answer that is you because you can measure the outside diameter of your hose and then order the right one.
So don’t be a ditz, MEASURE AND READ. If something says it fits the OD OUTSIDE DIAMETER, you need to measure that or you will have issues.
